How to Test the Working of Antivirus (AV) Software

Dear Friends,
Today I’ll tell you about testing the working of your AntiVirus Software.
This test is called as EICAR test which can be used to test any antivirus and was developed by European Institute of Computer Antivirus Research (EICAR).
In this way, you don’t need a Virus to test the working of your AntiVirus.

Steps-

(1) Open Notepad and copy the following code into the notepad and save it with any name (with .txt extension).

(2) X5O!P%@AP[4\PZX54(P^)7CC)7}$EICAR-STANDARD-ANTIVIRUS-TEST-FILE!$H+H*

(3) Rename this file to myfile.com

(4) Now run the antivirus scan on this file.

If your AntiVirus is working correctly then it should give a warning message or alert and it will delete the file immediately. If nothing happens then you should change your AV.
Note- Most of the AntiVirus Software will display a warning message in step 1 itself and will remove the file.

That’s all.

God Mode in Windows7 Part2

Dear Friends,

In my previous tutorial, I told you about God Mode. There's more on that.
The truth is, there isn't just one "God Mode." Windows7 has great collection of GodModes,
with a variety of hidden folders you can set up using different, unique text strings,
including special folders for biometric settings, printers, credentials and logins, the
firewall and security and many other features and functions of Windows7.

I found a post in a Microsoft forum that provides a short script that will quickly create
the different GodMode like folders.
Copy and paste the following text (immediately below this paragraph) into Notepad.
Name the file kunal.bat and save it on your hard drive in the location where you would

like the folders to be. Double click to run this script and it will create a new folder
called ‘Admin Kunal ‘ that will contain all of the developer shortcut folders.

mkdir "Admin Kunal
cd ".\Admin Kunal
mkdir "God Mode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}
mkdir "Location Settings.{00C6D95F-329C-409a-81D7-C46C66EA7F33}

BSNL Broadband Hacking

Dear Friends,
If you are using BSNL Broadband Internet and you are tired of frequent network slowdown, there is a small hack on BSNL for this.

You can use third party DNS servers instead of BSNL DNS servers.

The easiest option is to use OpenDNS ( http://www.opendns.com )

Just configure your network to use the following DNS servers:
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220

Steps-
(1)   Click on Start->>Run and type there ncpa.cpl.
Press Enter.
(2)   Right click on Local Area Connection and then click on Properties.
(3)   Now Double click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties

(4)   Enter the above mentioned DNS Server address in blank fields.

Detailed instructions specific to Operating Systems are available in the OpenDNS website also.

Even if your internet service provider’s DNS servers are working fine, you can still use OpenDNS just for two special features like 'Phishing Filters' and 'Automatic URL Correction'.

After hacking BSNL DNS server, you will see a noteworthy improvement in your broadband speed.

That’s all.

Use Your Pen Drive as a RAM

Dear Friends,
Today I’ll tell you about using your Pen Drive as RAM (Random Access Memory) in your computer machine.
It is possible with any kind of Windows Operating System. All you need is a pen drive of minimum 1GB of memory (Maximum of 4 GB). This method is effective because Pen drives can be quickly accessed and read by your system compared to your hard drive.

Steps:

(1) Insert the Pen Drive in the USB port
(2) Wait for the PC to detect the pen drive.
(3) Right click on My Computer ->> Properties.
(4) Advanced ->> Performance Settings.
(5) Advanced ->> Change.
(6) Select the Pen Drive.
(7) Click on Custom Size.
Check the value of space available
(8) Enter the same in the Initial and Max columns.
Here you just used the space of Pen Drive as a Virtual Memory”.
(9) Now restart your PC.

This way you can have a high speed system in a very low cost.

Important Note-
Different Windows editions have different upper maximum RAM limits. 64-bit Windows support different amounts of memory as a SKU-differentiating feature, with the low end being 512MB for Windows XP Starter to 128GB for Vista Ultimate and 192GB for Windows7 Ultimate.

All 32-bit Windows client SKUs, however, including Windows Vista, Windows XP and Windows 2000 Professional, support a maximum of 4GB of physical memory.
4GB is the highest physical address accessible with the standard x 86 memory management modes.

So, while the maximum RAM limit for 32-bit Windows 7 editions is 4GB, when it comes to the 64-bit editions, the amount of memory that the OS can address depends on which edition you are running.

Here are the upper RAM limits for the different editions of Windows 7:
Starter :                     8GB
Home Basic :            8GB
Home Premium :     16GB
Professional:          192GB
Enterprise :             192GB
Ultimate :               192GB

Quickly Generate Dummy Text in Microsoft Word

Dear Friends,
This is a very good trick to generate dummy text data in MSWord for some formatting or checking page margin, layout, fonts etc. You don’t have to type anything in MSWord.

Just type =rand(4,5)  and press enter in Microsoft word to have Microsoft Word automatically generate a bunch of text.

The text generated as shown below is the common phrase to type every letter in the alphabet.

The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.  The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.  The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.  The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.  The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog ..................... (in MSWord Xp)
On the Insert tab, the galleries include items that are designed to coordinate with the overall look of your document. You can use these galleries to insert tables, headers, footers, lists, cover pages, and other document building blocks. When you create pictures, charts, or diagrams, they also coordinate with your current document look. You can easily change the formatting of selected text in the document text by choosing a look for the selected text from the Quick Styles gallery on the Home tab. You can also format text directly by using the other controls on the Home tab…………..(in MSWord 2007)
You can also play with the numbers in the given brackets.
