How to Manually Ban an IP address in uTorrent

Dear Friends,

Today I’ll tell you the procedure to ban IP addresses in uTorrent application. This is very helpful when someone (any leechers) doesn’t listen to you and tries to download and run all the time from you. And you always thought like there is nothing you can do about it?
Actually there is a way to stop that leecher.
Steps-
(1)   Go to

            C:\Users\Windows user name\AppData\Roaming\uTorrent

{Note- If your AppData folder is hidden then just type %AppData%\uTorrent in RUN
                       command prompt.}

(2)   Create a new text file and name it ipfilter.dat

(3)   Open it with a Text Editor (eg.- Notepad)

(4)   In the document add IP in the following format
             Start IP - End IP , 000 ,

Example: If the IP you want to ban is 202.89.73.131 you need to enter 202.89.73.131 - 202.89.73.131 , 000 ,

(5)   Now Save & Close the file.

(6)   Navigate to uTorrent > Options > Preferences > Advanced

(7)   Enable ipfilter.dat
(If value is set to 'false' click on it and click on the 'true' button)

(8)   Close uTorrent & Restart uTorrent

          {Note- This will be a permanent ban and if you decide to unban someone then you will have to edit it.}

 That's all.

How to remove a Computer Virus

Dear Friends,

If your computer is infected with a virus, you'll want to remove ASAP. A fast way to check for viruses is to use an online scanner, such as the Microsoft Safety Scanner. The scanner is a free online service that helps you identify and remove viruses, clean up your hard disk, and generally improve your computer's performance.

If you're not sure whether your computer has a virus, see http://windows.microsoft.com/en-IN/windows7/how-can-i-tell-if-my-computer-has-a-virus to check for some telltale signs.

If you can connect to the Internet
If you can reach a website using your web browser, run an online scan.

To run the Microsoft Safety Scanner
  1. Go to the Microsoft Safety Scanner webpage to download the scanner.
  2. Click Download Now, and then follow the instructions on the screen.
If you can't connect to the Internet
If you can't get to the Microsoft Safety Scanner online, try restarting your computer in safe mode with networking enabled.

To restart in Safe Mode with networking enabled
  1. Restart your computer.
  2. When you see the computer manufacturer's logo, press and hold the F8 key.
  3. On the Advanced Boot Options screen, use the arrow keys to highlight Safe Mode with Networking, and then press Enter.
  4. Log on to your computer with a user account that has administrator rights.
  5. Follow the steps above to run the Microsoft Safety Scanner.

If you still can't access the Internet after restarting in safe mode, try resetting your Internet Explorer proxy settings.

How to Access Wikipedia Offline

Dear Friends,

Offline Wiki (http://offline-wiki.googlecode.com/git/app.html) is a web application that saves and downloads a copy of nearly all of the textual content of the English Wikipedia locally so that you can access it offline without internet connectivity.

Click on settings to get the options. There are two sets of data available for download, 14MB for the small version and 1GB for the larger one. You can select desired option from the settings page. 1GB is recommended, which is a highly compressed dump file and an index. Download starts almost immediately after you change the setting.

The offline access is immediately effective after the download. Type the keywords in the search box or browser through the index to find the page you are looking for.

Offline Wiki has been tested on iOS 5, Chrome, and Firefox. But it works best on Chrome.

Use Google Public DNS for faster Browsing

Dear Friends,

                         सभी दोस्तों को महाशिवरात्रि की बधाई.
Google Public DNS is a free global Domain Name System (DNS) resolution service that you can use as an substitute to your current DNS provider for faster browsing experience.
The DNS protocol is an important part of the web's infrastructure, serving as the Internet's phone book: every time you visit a website, your computer performs a DNS lookup. Complex pages often require multiple DNS lookups before they start loading, so your computer may be performing hundreds of lookups a day.

Configure your LAN Card network settings to use the IP addresses 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 as your Preferred and Alternate DNS servers.

Use yourself and check the difference.

That's all.

Secure USB Drives with BitLocker in Windows7

Dear Friends,

You can secure your USB flash drives using BitLocker encryption.
In this way you can protect sensitive data on your USB drives.

More on BitLocker-
“Windows BitLocker™ Drive Encryption provides protection for the computer operating system and data stored on the operating system volume by ensuring that data stored on a computer remains encrypted, even if the computer is tampered with when the operating system is not running. BitLocker provides a closely integrated solution in Windows 7 to address the threats of data theft or exposure from lost, stolen, or inappropriately decommissioned personal computers.”

But keep in mind that BitLocker facility is only available in Windows7 Ultimate and Enterprise editions.

Steps-

     (1)   Navigate to My Computer
     (2)   Right click on USB drive
     (3)   Select Turn on BitLocker…
     (4)   Now a screen will come up. Enable Use a password to unlock the drive.

     (5)   Enter your desired password and click on Next. And Follow the onscreen instructions.
     (6)  When done, this lock icon will display with your USB drive.

     (7)   Remove your USB drive.
     (8)   The next time you use your USB drive on another computer, it will prompt you for the password before allowing you read-only access to your flash drive. You can even use the drive on Windows XP/Vista.

     (9)   After entering password you can use your USB drive and now there will be more self explanatory options like the below shown figure-

{Note- When you add new files to an external hard drive or flash drive that is encrypted with BitLocker, BitLocker encrypts them automatically. Files remain encrypted only while they are stored in the encrypted drive. Files that are copied to another drive or computer are decrypted.}

Faster Shutdown in Windows7

Dear Friends,

This time I am writing a very small tutorial on shutting down Windows7 system very quick.
This registry setting notifies Windows how long to wait before prompting you that a service is not responding to the shut down request. This may help speed up your shutdown if you have any such services running.

Steps-

     (1)   Navigate to Start Menu then RUN.
     (2)   Type regedit
     (3)   Now go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE >> SYSTEM >> CurrentControlSet >>
           Control

     (4)   Find the WaitToKillServiceTimeout key on the right side.
     (5)   Now double click to edit and change it from the default 12000 (12 seconds) to
    2000 (2 seconds) or above.

Boost system performance with ReadyBoost

Dear Friends,

In Windows7 and Vista, there is a feature called ReadyBoost which improves your system performance by using USB Drives. It works by using flash memory, a USB flash drive, SD card or any kind of portable flash mass storage system as a cache. Using ReadyBoost-capable flash memory for caching allows Windows7 and Vista to service random disk reads with performance that is typically 80-100 times faster than random reads from traditional hard drives.

  Note-

  •        The removable media's capacity must be at least 256 MB (250 MB after formatting, Windows7 reports  in its Event Log a required minimum of 235 MB).
  •   Windows7 allows up to eight devices for a maximum of 256 GB of additional memory with up  to 32 GB on a single storage device.

Steps-

Insert your USB flash drive, and if it meets certain performance benchmarks, Windows7 will ask you if you want to use it for ReadyBoost and recommend the size to reserve.

OR

     (1)   Insert your USB flash drive.
     (2)   Go to Computer
     (3)   Now right click on USB drive.
     (4)   Go to Properties.

     (5)   A menu will come up
     (6)   Click on ReadyBoost tab
     (7)   Now click radio button named Use this device.
     (8)   Click on Apply and OK.

{Note- I have a 4GB USB drive which has only 824 MB free space. So it is showing
742 MB availability for ReadyBoost function. If you have more free space on
USB drive then it will be better.

That’s all.

Problem Steps Recorder in Windows7

Dear Friends,

The Problem Steps Recorder in the Windows7 operating system is a feature that enables users to record their interactions with an application and provide a detailed screen-by-screen view with accompanying information.

You can use Problem Steps Recorder to automatically capture the steps you take on a computer, including a text description of where you clicked and a picture of the screen during each click (called a screen shot). Once you capture these steps, you can save them to a file that can be used by a support professional or someone else helping you with a computer problem.

Steps-

(1)   Navigate to Start Menu and then RUN command prompt.

(2)   Type psr and Press Enter.

      (3)   Now Problem Steps Recorder will appear.

(4)   Click on Start Record. Now it will record all your moves and save them as a HTML document that you can view.

This will help you with troubleshooting or when writing a tutorial.

Learn how the recording can be used to quickly identify problems in the video (02 minutes 56 seconds) at Microsoft Website at-
